Building across the whole stack.

I'm Jay, a full-stack developer in Hamilton, Ontario. I like taking an idea from the database all the way to the interface, and making every layer in between work reliably.

At Evenica I build and maintain enterprise web applications, backend APIs and internal tools across React, Next.js, TypeScript, Node.js, C#, .NET and SQL, working with product, QA and DevOps teams from requirements to production.

Outside of work I build products end to end, from schema and auth to payments, tests and deployment. My projects range from AutoQuest, a car rental platform on Next.js 15, to a React Native food delivery app and an OpenAI-powered Discord bot.

Application Developer Co-op

Evenica / Burlington, Ontario

  • Built responsive, client-facing websites in React and SCSS, with a focus on usability and consistent behaviour across browsers.
  • Wrote C# backend services integrated with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Commerce, and managed and optimized the SQL data behind them.
  • Worked directly with clients and cross-functional teams from requirements to delivery, shipping secure, tested code with work items and source control in Azure DevOps.

03 / Work

Things I have shipped.

Independent and team builds outside the day job. Each one is a full product: data model, auth, payments, tests and deployment, not just a UI.

AutoQuest Rentals

A complete car rental platform with an EV-first rewards model and carbon analytics for the business.

Customers search by branch, dates, brand and body type, then book and pay through Stripe and manage trips from their account. Admins run the fleet from a dashboard for vehicles, branches, bookings, users and environmental impact.

  • Better Auth with Google and email sign-in, email verification, password reset, role-aware route middleware, plus admin roles, bans and impersonation.
  • Stripe Checkout with a webhook that confirms bookings, and a secured Vercel cron job that completes finished rentals and emails each customer.
  • Admin analytics in Recharts, written as raw PostgreSQL: monthly carbon emissions, emissions by fuel and body type, and revenue per carbon unit by branch.
  • A green nudge at vehicle selection and a rewards program that earns 2x points on electric rentals.
  • Jest and React Testing Library across 41 test files, with Playwright end-to-end runs for search and booking.

Polaris Commerce

A multi-vendor storefront where shoppers can become sellers and run their own catalogue.

Full-stack e-commerce on Next.js 14 with seller and admin dashboards, order placement and tracking, product management and Stripe payments. We split the work through pull requests, and I focused on the shopper side.

WellnessWhiz

A Discord bot for diet, health and wellness questions where two models answer and a third picks the better reply.

Mention the bot in any channel and it answers in real time. Every question goes to two OpenAI models, a judge call compares their answers, and only the winner is posted and kept in the conversation history.

2candidate models

3API calls per reply

  • Two candidate answers per question, generated by davinci-002 completions and gpt-3.5-turbo chat.
  • A third gpt-3.5-turbo call acts as the judge, choosing the reply that is more informative, relevant and helpful given the conversation so far.
  • A scoped system prompt keeps the bot to diet, health and wellness and declines everything else.
  • The winning reply is appended to the history, so follow-up questions keep their context.
  • Runs as a discord.py client that replies only when mentioned, and also works from the terminal.

Food Delivery App

A cross-platform ordering app: browse restaurants, build a cart and see your order on a map.

A React Native app built with Expo. Users browse featured restaurant rows and food categories, open a menu, add dishes to a cart, place the order and land on a delivery screen that maps the restaurant with an estimated arrival time.

  • Stack navigation across Home, Restaurant, Cart and Delivery, with the cart as a modal and delivery as a full-screen modal.
  • Redux Toolkit store with cart and restaurant slices, memoized per-item selectors through reselect, and a running cart total.
  • Delivery screen on react-native-maps with a restaurant marker, and order cancellation that clears the cart.
  • Styled with NativeWind, Tailwind for React Native, plus Feather icons.
